Losing Weight Naturally During Menopause

When people are younger, the speed of the body’s metabolism burns food faster. This allows a person to eat a lot without worrying about getting fat. As the individual gets older, this changes and if no changes are made, there is a good chance one will be overweight.

But women have something else to worry about aside from eating too much. The person can also gain weight due to hormonal changes depending on the type of food taken in as a result of menopause.

Menopause normally happens to women between the ages of 40 to 50. The person’s reproductive system will slowly shut down and problems such as hot flashes, irregular bleeding or mood swings will frequently happen.

There are ways to treat menopause and the patient has to consult with the doctor first to find out which is the best treatment available.

Recently, scientists have found a way to reduce weight naturally and somehow prevent some of the common problems experienced during menopause. This involves eating properly, engaging in a physical activity and getting the much-needed hours of rest.

1. The person should always eat the right amounts of fruits, vegetables, meat and fish. This will give the woman the proper proteins, carbohydrates and nutrients that are needed daily.

Since the average woman doesn’t know what is the definition of the right amounts, it will be a good idea to get a dietitian who can make a program that will work. All the patient has to do is stick to the plan.

The individual should also drink a lot of water to prevent dehydration. If coffee or tea is served for breakfast or taken in during any time of the day, this should be substituted for non-caffeinated or juice drinks.

Experiencing changes in the body doesn’t mean the person can no longer have fun on weekends. Drinking alcohol should just be cut down to a glass or two while those who can’t say no to chocolates or sweets can have one on occasion.

2. The second is exercise and anyone who wants to be fit and strong should always find time to do it. The person can jog or ride the bike in the morning. Those who want company can have this by enrolling in a gym and joining some group classes.

Any physical activity regardless if it is low or a high impact one will help increase the individual’s metabolism and burn away those stored fat. This will also enhance the muscle to fat ratio that is good for the body.

A health professional can make a program. All the woman has to do is show up on time at the gym so the session can begin.

3. Last is rest. Doctors recommend that the person should get at least 8 hours of sleep a day. Those who work hard and get less should take 10 to 15 minute naps to fight stress. An occasionally vacation out of town will also do to those who need to recharge those batteries before getting back on the saddle again.

Losing weight during menopause doesn’t happen naturally. The woman has to eat smart, rest, find the time to burn off the excess fat and build up the metabolism. This is the only way one can feel young and active even if that individual has already reached the age of 40 or 50.
